Frankie Joe Appelt Jr., 75, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 4, 2018. He was born on July 15, 1943 to Frank J. Appelt Sr. & Wilhemenia Siecko, in Sublime. He moved to Hallettsville when he was about 3 years old, to what we call the "Home Place". He went to Hallettsville High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hallettsville.
Frankie was drafted in to the US Army. He served in two tours in the Vietnam War, and was a member of the local VFW and American Legion organizations.
Frankie came back from Vietnam and went to Houston, working for "Big 3" as a mechanic. He retired and moved back to Hallettsville. He then worked at Walmart as a greeter for many years. He also was a rancher where he raised cattle on the "Home Place".
Frankie took sick on March 2016 with diabetes, COPD and heart problems. He spent the last few years in VA Hospital, Lavaca Medical Center, Citizens Medical Center and Hallettsville Rehab and Nursing till his death.
Frankie is survived by: 3 step-children, Robin Johnson, Elaine Haskins and Dwayne Prazak; 5 sisters, Helen Spies, Linda Haas, Dorothy Benoit, Bettye Appelt and Doris A Kalmus; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Frankie was preceded in death by his parents.
We the family would like to thank all of those who had a hand in taking care of Frankie for the past 2 ½ years; nursing home staff, hospice, doctors; and especially Vernon Duty, Michell Drozd, Bobby & T.C. Vanhowten and their boys, and his sister Doris Kalmus for all she has done. Thanks to Pastor Nick for all his visits and prayers, and for the members of First Baptist Church for their prayers and support, and the Fellowship Committee of the First Baptist Church for their work, and church members furnishing all the food.
Funeral Service : 1 pm, Thursday Nov. 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Wednesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Kevin Bright, Vernon Duty, Bobby Vanhowten, Nathan Haas, Nicholas Haas, and Milton Haas III. O fficiant: Rev. Nick Ferguson . Memorials (in lieu of flowers): First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 394, Hallettsville; or Donor's choice. Burial: Geiger Cemetery, Sublime, Texas.
