IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Flora Earlene
Byrn Miller
August 7, 1929 – January 6, 2025
Flora Earlene Byrn Miller, 95, of Sublime, Texas, peacefully entered Heaven on January 6, 2025. She was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on August 7, 1929, to Albert Earl Byrn and Jennie Bell Black Byrn. She moved with her family to Oklahoma City as a baby, where she lived until the age of ten before they settled in The Heights of Houston.
Earlene then began third grade at Harvard Elementary School. Her work ethic was evident early on. At the age of 15, she obtained a work permit and secured her first job downtown at The Forum Cafeteria. She had a passion for learning, but in 11th grade, she left school to help support the family. Always dedicated, she took a job at Southland Venitian Blind Corporation. Her diligence caught the attention of her boss's wife, who recognized her potential and offered her a position at her loan office. Encouraged, she attended Southwestern Business School, earning her business certificate while working. Eventually, she took a job with the Duncan Coffee Company.
Earlene's unwavering dedication continued on into her marriage. She met Vernon Lewis Miller, the love of her life, and were married on May 17, 1952. They spent more than 66 years committed to one another.
Vernon and Earlene moved into an apartment off the Gulf Freeway in Houston before settling into a house in Pasadena, Texas. Shortly after, Vernon and Earlene had their first child, Mark. Three years later, they welcomed their daughter, Donnalyn. Earlene dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom, raising her children with love and devotion. Following Vernon's retirement, they moved into his mother's home place in Sublime, Texas.
Throughout these life changes, faith was Earlene's foundation. From a young age she was active in church. She was baptized in 1945 in the San Jacinto River in Houston and her faith deepened over the years. She and Vernon were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Pasadena, Texas, where She was confirmed in December 1960. Her confirmation verse, Revelation 2:10, was her guide:
"Do not fear what you are about to suffer…Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life."
Faith and worship were important to both Vernon and Earlene. After moving to Sublime, they became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg, Texas.
Earlene's steadfast faith and love for Jesus was evident in all she did. She enjoyed listening to Gospel hymns while working around the house and cherished worshiping with her family. Even in her later years, she could be found reading her Bible and sharing her scriptural insights.
Earlene was a woman of great devotion and full of faith. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but we all rejoice knowing she is home with her Savior!
Earlene is survived by: her son Mark Miller & wife Lisa of Weimar, Texas; daughter Donnalyn Brock & husband Tommy of Kerrville, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Mark Miller Jr., Misti Miller, Kayla Brock and Clayton Brock; and 1 great grandchild, Brandon Miller. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers and sisters.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Regency Nursing Center in Schulenburg, Texas, for their outstanding love and care.
