Evelyn Lydia Michalec, 88, of Hallettsville, passed away Jan. 8, 2020. She was an intelligent, compassionate, hardworking, resilient, patient woman. She was born on July 9, 1931 to John & Agnes Vanzura Mikulencak in Moulton, TX. She spent her childhood in the rural area just north of Moulton. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Hallettsville Garden Club, Lavaca Medical Center Pink Lady, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Evelyn graduated from Moulton High School in 1949. She married Charles Michalec, her high school sweetheart and "love of her life", in October of 1949. In the early 1950's, Charles and Evelyn made their home in Hallettsville. She began her involvement with the schools in Hallettsville. She was a PTA member and room mother, this led to employment with Hallettsville School District for 30 years as a Teacher's Aide.

Evelyn took a lot of pride in her lawn and flowers. She won an award as "Yard of the Month" from the Hallettsville Garden Club in the late 1980's.

Evelyn, like Charles, loved and supported the Hallettsville Brahmas and Texas Longhorns. She also loved the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys and Troy Aikman. She also enjoyed antiquing and shopping.

Charles and Evelyn loved to travel. They drove all over the United States, Canada and Alaska, and they took two trips to Europe. She loved her husband Charles and her family. She was the epitome of a mother and grandmother.

Evelyn is survived by: son Charles "Mike" Michalec Jr. & wife Karen; daughter Cynthia (Mitch) Michalec Edgar & husband John; 8 grandchildren, Justin Edgar & wife Jennifer, Christina Edgar & wife Kari, Cassandra Edgar & husband Judson, Tyana Michalec, Wesley Michalec & wife Trisha, Kirk Michalec & wife Sinead, Charlie David Michalec, and Cerena Michalec; and 9 great-grandchildren, Aden Edgar, Tanner Roberts, Duke Edgar, Annie Edgar, Shepherd Hedberg, Mack Hedberg, Brynn Jendrzey, Ryder Jendrzey and Kylan McKinley.

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her beloved husband Charles; her son David Wayne Michalec; parents; 2 brothers, Ed and Bill Mikulencak; and sister Marcella Galla.

Funeral Mass Service : 11 am, Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 9 am, Monday; and the Rosary starting at 10:30 am. Pallbearers: Charles (Mike) Michalec Jr., Wesley Michalec, Kirk Michalec, Charles David Michalec, John Edgar, Justin Edgar, Aden Edgar and Judson Hedberg. Officiant: Rev. Felix Twumasi. Memorials: Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or donor's choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
