Evelyn Marie Koehne, age 95, of Hallettsville, passed away on August 10, 2020. She was born in Lavaca County on April 12, 1925 to the late Bohumil & Nepomucena Anna Valigura Vasek She married Harper Louis Koehne on April 29, 1941 in Rockport, TX. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Sublime.
Evelyn loved her visits from her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers & gardening. She would be seen in her kitchen canning the fruit & vegetables from her garden. She loved to cook making her fried chicken on Friday nights. She would always bake something sweet for lunch on Sunday afternoons with the kids & have coffee ready. She was a seamstress & quilter. She made many quilts & one special quilt for each grandchild. She worked at Weingarten's for 12 years & at the Senior Citizens Nutrition Center in Hallettsville for 15 years before retiring. She lived on the family farm with Harper until his passing in 2009. She continued living there until a fall in 2010 caused her to be put in the care of Stevens Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Evelyn is survived by: 2 sons, Leon Koehne & wife Carol and Marvin Koehne & wife Barbara; daughter Nettie Mertz & husband Kenneth all of Hallettsville; 6 grandchildren, Steven Koehne & wife Shandlyn, Justin Koehne & wife Lisa, Dr. Jaclyn Smith & husband Scot, Amy Mertz & companion John, Devin Mertz & wife Jaime, and Mandy Mertz; and 10 great grandchildren, Kelton & Korbin Koehne, Landon & Lauren Koehne, Dawson & Brenna Smith, Ashley Trussell, Cavan, Harper & Ryder Mertz.
Evelyn was preceded in death by; her parents, grandson Clayton Lee Koehne, 2 brothers Emanuel & Alvin Vasek, and sister Elsie Woytek.
The family of Evelyn would like to thank all of the family and friends for their love and prayers. We also thank Pastor Beyer and Stevens for all the care given during her stay.
Funeral Service (All attendees should wear masks): 10 am, Friday, August 14, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church of Sublime; with Visitation at 9 am. Pallbearers: Devin Mertz, Scot Smith, Dawson Smith, Justin Koehne, Landon Koehne, and Korbin Koehne. Officiant: Pastor Herb Beyer. Memorials: Zion Lutheran Church of Sublime or Donor's Choice. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery.
