Evelyn Merle Killough, 85, of Hallettsville, passed away November 20, 2015. She was born on September 9, 1930 to Agon and Beulah (St. Clair) Langhoff in Dreyer, Texas. Evelyn was a graduate of Shiner High School. She married Oliver L. Killough, Jr. on September 16, 1951 at United Evangelical Lutheran Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner, Texas.
During her early career she worked as a secretary at an Abstract Company in Hallettsville. She then worked 22 years for the Hallettsville I.S.D. as a High School and Junior High School Principal Secretary.
Throughout her life Evelyn enjoyed working with her plants and flowers. She especially enjoyed growing her African Violet Flowers. Another hobby of Evelyn and Oliver was to raise and sell parakeets. They did this for nearly 20 years. Evelyn liked to cook and bake for her family as well. In addition, she liked to travel with Oliver. They went on many tours throughout the United States.
Evelyn was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, The Hallettsville Garden Club, The Lavaca County Retired Teachers Association, The Texas Extension Education Association of Lavaca County, and Hermann Sons.
Evelyn is survived by: her husband Oliver; her daughter Karen Novak and husband Hank of Flatonia; two granddaughters, Laura Novak Blahuta and her husband Carl of Hallettsville, and Kristen Novak of Houston; and one great grandson, Peyton Blahuta of Hallettsville; one sister-in-law, Barbara Langhoff of Cuero; two nephews, Darryll Langhoff and wife Barb of Cuero, and Tracy Langhoff of Cuero.
Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents, and a brother Freddie Langhoff.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Monday at Kubena Funeral Home with Prayer Service starting at6:30 pm. Officiant: Pastor Andrew Taylor. Pallbearers: John Langhoff, Darryll Langhoff, Tracy Langhoff, Frankie Novak, Carl Blahuta, and George Jackson. Memorials: St. Peter Lutheran Church or Donor's Choice. Burial: Shiner City Cemetery.
