IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn
Haas
November 29, 1928 – January 19, 2018
Evelyn Haas, 89, of Hallettsville, passed away Jan. 19, 2018. She was born on Nov. 29, 1928 to Emil E. & Christina Schramek Knesek Sr. in Schulenburg. She was a member of KJZT (50 year pin), and Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church of Moravia, TX.
Evelyn attended St. Rose and Boethel Schools. She often talked about the time she had walked to school by herself through the neighbor's pastures in fear of the livestock coming after her.
Evelyn grew up on the farm, helping her parents by chopping and picking cotton. She then met her husband, Clarence and they were married on Nov. 15, 1948 at Ascension of our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia. They were married for about 56 years. They had two daughters who Evelyn taught many things on the farm.
Evelyn loved to bake and cook. Her favorites were poppyseed kolaches, apple and lemon pies, and chicken noodle soups. She also enjoyed baking apple strudels. Evelyn always planted a large vegetable garden from which she canned pickles, beans and tomatoes. She also loved to can jellies.
In the summertime, the grandchildren always came to visit and stay on the farm. She enjoyed teaching them about the ways of country life. In the evenings, they enjoyed playing games and eating Blue Bell Ice Cream.
Evelyn was a great seamstress. She sewed all her dresses, clothes and costumes for her daughters.
Evelyn would help Clarence with the farm work and cattle. She raked hay, rolled the fields after planting, shredded and disced the fields after harvest. She milked the cows each morning. She always kept a flock of hens, and anyone who came to visit always went home with fresh eggs.
Evelyn was a hardworking woman, loving mother, grandma and wife who truly loved family and her farm.
Evelyn is survived by: 2 daughters, Gayle Kocich & husband Larry of Rosenberg, and Barbara Haas of Hallettsville; brother Edwin Knesek of Schulenberg; 2 granddaughters, Lisa Meyer & husband Jeremy of Richmond, and Angela Kocich of El Lago; grandson Christopher Kocich of Rosenberg; and great grandson Owen Meyer.
