Evelyn Theresa Galetka Sassin, 80, of Freeport, Texas passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Village on the Creek. She was born January 4, 1930 in Hallettsville, Texas to John and Theresa Galetka. Evelyn was a member of Saint Paul's American Lutheran Church in Freeport, Texas.

She grew up and attended the Boethel public school near Hallettsville. She attended Victoria Beauty College in Victoria and then opened her own beauty shop in Freeport after marrying. She worked in her own shop as a hair dresser for 35 years.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved cooking for family gatherings, working in the yard and quilting-sewing. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Selma Grones, and brothers Victor Galetka, Julius Galetka, John Galetka, and Edwin Galetka. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Louis F. Sassin, 2 sons: David Sassin and wife Evelyn Theresa Galetka Susan of Austin, Texas, Larry Sassin of Freeport, Texas, 2 grandchildren: Michael Sassin and Stacey Sassin, 2 brothers: Emil Galetka of Lake Jackson, Hilmer Galetka and wife Gay of Hallettsville, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Monday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 16th at 10 am at Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Vsetin, Texas.
