Obituary

Evelyn E. Bujnoch, 90, of Hallettsville, was called to Heaven on February 1, 2019. She was born on February 17, 1928 to Anton V. & Matilda Tupa in Breslau. She was the oldest of 7 children and always believed in the importance of family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Evelyn went to school in Breslau and the Baldwin College of bookkeeping. Her first job was at Kallus Ford Motor Company in Hallettsville. That is where Evelyn met the love of her life, Phillip, when he came shopping for a car. They dated for a few years and married on October 19, 1949. A year later their son, David, was born. He was their only child, and they doted on him a lot, but also instilled in him values like hard-work, devotion to family, integrity and ultimately the love of farming and ranching.

Evelyn worked at the Cuero Livestock Auction on Fridays, until she started working at the Hallettsville Livestock Commission Company full time. She was a dedicated and loyal employee who considered her bosses and their families her extended family. She kept the books so thoroughly and would not let even 1 penny be off. Evelyn received an award from the Livestock Marketing Association for her years of service in the cattle industry. Evelyn worked until December 2016, when she was 88. She was very proud to say that she had worked as a bookkeeper for 65 years.

Evelyn was an amazing cook and loved baking for family and friends. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and her poppy seed kolaches. And she made the best chicken fried steak. At Christmas, she would spend hours baking poppy seed kolaches, and she always had cookies in the cookie jar. She loved to give out her recipes and had many of them in the local cookbooks and even published in magazines.

Evelyn doted on her grandchildren as if they were her own children. She never forgot special occasions and loved taking the kids to get special Easter outfits, and never missed clipping photos or articles out of the paper about any school events. Her love and generosity continued with her 4 great grandchildren and her great great granddaughter.

Evelyn was meticulous about keeping up her appearance. She was in beauty pageants and rode on floats in local parades when she was a young woman. She had a standing appointment every Friday to get her hair done and she loved getting her nails done.

Evelyn will be remembered as a true lady who loved her family. She was selfless and so loving. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years, as well as serving on the church's financial board. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of Americas #797, and KJZT #3.

Evelyn is survived by: son David Bujnoch & wife Kathy; grandson Jeffrey Bujnoch & wife Ashley; granddaughter Shannon Koppenol; 4 great grandsons, Tyler Koppenol & wife Kylie, Joshua Koppenol, Dustin & Cameron Bujnoch; great great granddaughter Tynlee Jo Koppenol; 2 brothers, James Tupa, and Jerome Tupa & wife Laverne; and sister Jeanette Goggans.
