Eugene A. Vasek Sr., 74, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 8, 2014. He was born on Jan. 5, 1940, to Alvin & Annie Vavrusa Vasek Sr. in Hallettsville. He was raised in Hallettsville and graduated from Hallettsville High School. He served in the US Army.

Eugene married Helen Biehunko on Oct. 23, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. He was a member of the American Legion Post 230, served as Commander, Finance Officer and nominating committee.

Eugene enjoyed country living. He loved farming, gardening, taking good care of his cattle and dogs. Most of all, he loved his family. He helped working with many organizations. He also worked for Drymalla Construction, fish construction and Morgan Buildings.

Eugene is survived by: his wife Helen; son Eugene Vasek Jr. & wife Marie; brother Alvin Vasek Jr. & wife Barbara; sister Julie Schilhab & husband Albert; nephews, Justin Vasek & wife Taditha, Dwayne Schilhab & wife Lisa and their children Emma & Cade, Edward Biehunko III & wife Debbie; nieces, Pam Lane & husband Paul and their children Cole & Carrie, and Vanessa Vasek & fiancé Kevin Smith.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Tuesday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at 7pm. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Pallbearers: Justin Vasek, Paul Lane, Dwayne Schilhab, Harvey Ehler, Gary Vavrusa, and Kevin Smith. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Charity of Your Choice.
