Obituary

Eugene Carl Menking of Sealy passed to the sheltering arms of our Lord on Friday, June 27, 2008. Carl was born the only child of Louis and Ouida Mae Thompson Menking on November 28, 1931 in Hallettsville, Texas. The Menkings moved to Schulenburg where Carl began his lifelong work of working in livestock auction markets.

Carl is predeceased by his parents and his wife and mother of their children Patsy Jo Henderson Menking. He is survived by his children, Delores and husband Joe Korenek of Sealy, Eugene Carl Menking, Jr. of Sealy and Margaret Kelly of Oklahoma. He is also survived by 11 grand children, and several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Carl moved to Houston in 1952 and assumed employment with Port City Stockyards after working for several years in area livestock auction markets. In 1955 he went to work for C. A. Mewis and worked livestock auction markets in Bay City and Conroe for several years. In August of 1968, he was re-employed by Port City at their recently acquired market in Sealy. In 1973 he accepted the appointment as Superintendent of Port City's Sealy Livestock Auction and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2005. He worked part time for the Company after his retirement until January 31st of this year. Carl was the longest tenured Superintendent of Port City in the now 77-year history of the Company. He served the patron of Port City Stockyards for a cumulative period of over 43 years. During that time he was awarded many company awards for meritorious service.

A visitation is scheduled at noon with a celebration of life at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville with burial at Old Kinkler Cemetery, North of Hallettsville on County Road 240. Officiate: Mr. Sammy Miller. Pallbearers: Kenneth Shaffer, James Henning, Randy Hinze, J.D. Sartwelle Jr., Jerry Shupak, and Joe Korenek.
