Eugene "Gene" Joseph Gillar, 70, of Moulton, passed away Friday January 13, 2017 at his home, after a struggle with cancer. He was born February 13, 1946 to M.V. and Julia Gillar and grew up on the family farm near Charlottenburg.

On September 6, 1965, Eugene married Kathryn Novak in Witting. Kathryn and Eugene were blessed with three sons and seven grandchildren who mean the world to him. After Kathryn passed, Eugene remarried Elaine Massie in St. Mary's church July 20, 2007. Eugene was then Papa Gene to seven more grandchildren.

Eugene worked on his farm and ranch his entire life. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and mule through the pastures. He had a knack for keeping farm equipment operating with his "Gillar Improvement Packages".

Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing. His highlights were mule deer hunting trips to west Texas with friends and hunting near the farm, helping with several first deer for family members. He enjoyed playing dominoes his entire life, he taught his children when they were young, and played with friends at Rosie's Hideaway and at Surgosa until late in life.

Eugene is survived by: wife Elaine; his sons, Randy, Shannon & wife Debra, and Troy & wife Jamie; seven grandchildren, Josh, Nathan, Meagan, Grant, Gavin, Reid and Julia; brother Jerome Gillar; and sister Kathryn Lee. His step children Kim Pesek & husband Dwight, Kasey Selzer & wife Juli, and Kody Selzer & wife Lauren; step grandchildren, Madison Kurtz; Jared, Brooke & Avery Pesek; Randi, Jackson & Samuel Selzer.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Kathryn Gillar and sister Margaret Ebert.

Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Bruce Sciba, Kasey Selzer, Joshua Janecek, Elroy Holik, Kody Selzer, and Russell Sciba. Honorary Pallbearers: Nathan Hawthorn, Meagan Gillar, Grant Gillar, Gavin Gillar, Reid Gillar, Julia Gillar, Madison Kurtz, Jaren Pesek, Brooke Pesek, Avery Pesek, Randie Selzer, Jackson Selzer, Samuel Selzer, Robert Sciba, Albert Krejci, and Dennis Kocian. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: St. Mary's Catholic Church or Donor's Choice. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
