IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ernest
Orsak
December 18, 1927 – August 12, 2015
Ernest Orsak, of Hallettsville, went to be with the lord on August 12th at the age of 87. He was born on December 18, 1927 on the banks of the Brazos River in Booth, Texas. He was the 9th of 11 children. As a young boy he enjoyed fishing on the Brazos and working on the families 100 acre farm. Ernest learned to grow corn and cotton and harvested all the goods on the homestead. In the 50's they added cattle to provide meat, milk, and butter.
Ernest went to Booth Public School in Booth, TX, where he walked a 5 mile round trip. He attended school until 8th grade and thereafter helped the family with the farm. He then enlisted into the military at the age of 17 for a year and half receiving the rank of private. After his stint in the military he came home and worked for Marshall Canning Company delivering canned goods to New Mexico, Arkansas, La. and Mississippi. Soon after he met a young woman that stole his heart, they were married in 1951. Over the years he and his wife raised 4 children while living in Rosenberg.
Ernest also enjoyed coaching little league baseball (the Yankees) and led the team to 7 consecutive championships. He also worked at Fort Bend County Pct. 1 for 14 years as a heavy equipment operator. He then worked as a machinist at EIM Manufacturing and Schlumberger. He and his wife bought their weekend home in Vienna in 1975 and he started ranching part-time. He soon had his share of the big city and he and his wife decided to make Vienna their permanent home. Ernest then became a truck driver for Migl Feed & Grain and often remarked, "he drove 100,000 miles a year". He retired from truck driving at the age of 73 and started working part time at Stanley's Grocery Store in the produce dept. After a few years he decided to become a full time rancher along with growing his own produce and selling to local merchants.
Ernest and Verna enjoyed 63 years of marriage, their family, and great friends. They had many fun adventures visiting numerous states. The family has enjoyed countless catfish dinners as fishing was his favorite past time and he enjoyed sharing all his fishing traits with all of his grandchildren.
