Obituary

Emily Brunkenhoefer, 83, of Hallettsville, passed away March 17, 2010. She was born June 10, 1926 to Jacob and Therese Panus Mikes in the Witting community of Lavaca County, Texas. Emily grew up and attended school in the Witting community. She had one brother, Ludwig and six sisters, Albina, Bessie, Frances, Mary, Christina and Stazie.

Emily married Mason Brunkenhoefer in Hallettsville and together they had 6 children, Darlene, Donald, Roy, Larry, Shirley and Marlene.

Emily worked for and completed 20 years of service with J. Weingarten, Inc. in May 1980. In 2008, she also completed 20 years of loyal and dedicated service at Wal-Mart in Hallettsville as a people greeter and continued to work until December 2008. She loved her extended family and friends at Wal-Mart. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling with a special friend, Cecil New. She really enjoyed when family and friends stopped by to visit. Her puppy, Bingo, was her pride and joy and was always there to greet her at the door after a long days' work.

Emily is survived by: 3 daughters, Darlene Antrich and Hubert of Sheridan, Shirley Tobola and Jim of Giddings, and Marlene and Darvin Drosche of Lexington; sister, Christina Darilek of Witting. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband Mason; 3 sons, Donald, Roy and Larry; 2 grandchildren, Sheryl Brunkenhoefer and Douglas Drosche; parents; one brother, Ludwig Mikes; and 5 sisters, Bessie Carter, Mary Zimmermann, Frances Pilsner, Albina Pilsner, and Stazie Buzek.

Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 2 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Michael Rother. Pallbearers: Daniel Brunkenhoefer, Jason Brunkenhoefer, Steve Antrich, Eugene Mikes, Elmer Meyer, and Alvin Kocian. Memorials: Charity of your choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
