Emil A. Hermes, 74, of Hallettsville, passed away Aug. 25, 2016. He was born on Feb. 27, 1942 to Ernest E. & Janie Steffek Hermes in Lavaca County, TX. He married Joyce Meyer on Sept. 7, 1963 at St. Rose of Lima in Schulenburg. He was Honorable Discharged from the US Army Reserve. He was past Director of Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show; member of Knights of Columbus, South Texas Wheel Spinners & Crank Twisters Antique Farm Equipment Club, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Emil loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. He looked forward to his Thursday nights at Timm's Camp and his hunting trips to the hill country. He had a joy for polka music and following the Czechoholics polka band.
Emil is survived by: his wife Joyce; 3 sons, Greg Hermes & wife Kris of Hallettsville, Chris Hermes of Hallettsville, and Mark Hermes & wife Ashley of Brenham; 3 daughters, Denise Barton & husband Kenneth of Hallettsville, Suzanne Pavlicek & husband Jay of Hallettsville, and Wanda Orsak & husband Ronnie of Shiner; brother Tommy Hermes & wife Connie of Hallettsville; brother-in-law Ben Dworsky of Hallettsville; 2 sisters, Barbara Schindler & husband Victor of Hallettsville, and Kathy Haas & husband Charles of Hallettsville; and 12 grandchildren, Lance Barton; Blake, Brett, and Brock Hermes; Megan, Robyn, and Adam Pavlicek; Caitlin, Jaycie and Nolan Orsak; Wyatt and Lara Hermes.
Emil was preceded in death by: parents; 2 sisters, Carolyn Dworsky and Betty Sue Grahmann; and 2 brothers, William and Jerome Hermes.
Funeral Mass Service: 2 pm, Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home with Rosary starting at7 pm. Pallbearers: William Janik, Melvin Chaloupka, Ricky Steffek, Jeremy Haas, Kevin Dworsky, Harvey Popp, Donnie Steffek, and Phillip Steffek. Honorary Pallbearers: Grandchildren and his friends from Timm's Camp. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Carolyn Dworsky Scholarship Fund, Sacred Heart Catholic Church/School, or Donor's Choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
