Elton F. Goodall, 94, of Hallettsville, passed from this life June 27, 2016. He was born to Beulah Leggett Goodall and Elton Fulmer Goodall November 6, 1921 in Wadsworth, Texas at home. Elton's life span crossed many decades which allowed him to see many inventions and progress we all know of today such as Electricity and running water in homes, Telephones, Automobiles, TV's, Man on the moon, Cell Phones, Computers and all that goes with it, the list goes on and on.
Elton graduated Bay City High School in 1939. He soon enrolled in Texas A&M University, staying about 1 month, and hitch hiked to Houston were he enrolled into the University of Houston.
In 1941 Elton borrowed money to purchase a Sinclair Service Station in Freeport, Texas in which he soon learned, this was not for him and sold out.
The day of the Pearl Harbor Attack, December 6, 1941, Elton was working in the PX at the US Army "Camp Hulen" near Palacios, Texas. He soon entered into Welding School and took a job building ships at the Houston Ship Yard.
In September 1942 Elton joined the Navy Seabee's and left for boot camp in Norfolk, Virginia. After boot camp he was transferred to the 1st Amphibious Marine Corps Division. He achieved Sharp Shooter and was awarded a Thompson Sub Machine gun. Elton was transferred to the San Diego Marine Base where he was shipped out to the South Pacific. Within a few months Elton made a beach landing at Guadalcanal in the second or third wave. His next move was a beach landing under fire at Bougainville. There he was engaged in fire with the Japanese. 3 Days later they had gained 1 mile inland. It took 10 days to make the next 3 miles were they set up a landing strip for the much needed supplies.
In 1944 Elton was hospitalized for extreme fatigue and was shipped back to San Diego, California, where he was honorably discharged from the service.
In 1945 he went to work for a food broker. Doing very well, he felt this was the field for him. In 1946, Elton started his own food brokerage business "Goodall Sales Company" With Elton's flare for business he participated in numerous joint ventures from 1951 thru 1983 with great success.
When Elton married Diana in 1992, he also became Dad to two sons, Mckinnon age 20 and Brandon age 5. A whole new world opened up to him.
Elton was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Marion, his sister Lucille Goodall Kirby, his brother James Daniel Goodall. He is survived by his wife Diana Craig Goodall, son Mckinnon Fowlkes & wife Donna, son Brandon Whitley & wife Tiffany; 3 precious granddaughters, Jordan, Jessie, and Landry Whitley.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family invites you to a reception in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Sublime Baptist Church. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiant: Brother George Hayhurst. Pallbearers: Abraham Camarillo, Louis Camarillo, Trinity Kalmus, Craig Sykes, Andrew Varley, and Roger Vogel. Honorary Pallbearers: David Buzek, Adan Camarillo, Bob Edwards, John Fenner, James Harvey, Jim Herrington, Alvin Mikulenka, and Larry Varley. Memorials: Sublime Baptist Church or Hospice of South Texas. Burial (Private): Oak Hill Cemetery, Flatonia, TX.
