Elaine B. Harrell, 85 of Hallettsville, passed away November 19, 2014 after a yearlong battle with oral cancer. Mrs. Harrell was born on January 20, 1929 to Jessie T. and Ola Mae Miles Boyd in Franklin, Texas and moved to Houston after graduating from Franklin High School where she met her future husband, Farris O. Harrell. They were married on December 9, 1949 and enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage until his death in August, 2004.
Elaine owned and operated her own beauty shop in LaMarque, Texas and was blessed with the birth of her two children, Ken and Donna, while she resided in LaMarque. In 1978, the Harrells bought a small ranch South of Hallettsville and began a new endeavor in the cattle business. While Mr. Harrell pursued his career in the brick laying industry, Elaine worked for Hajek's Liquor Store for 20 years with her close friends, Emil and Trudy Hajek. She was a people person and enjoyed visiting with the customers.
Elaine was a devoted to her family, whether it be vacationing across the United States, or following her children's sports schedules. The Harrells were blessed with their one and only grandchild, Brittany Lane Harrell, who brought true joy and happiness into their lives.
Elaine shared her time with family and many friends including countless hours at her pond house, cooking catfish dinners and enjoying lots of laughter. Feeding her guests was one of her greatest pleasures. Not only was Elaine a people person, she was kind to her ranch animals including her Schnauzer, Precious, a constant companion.
Elaine is survived by: daughter, Donna Harrell of Hallettsville; son, Ken Harrell of San Antonio, granddaughter, Brittany Lane Harrell of Austin; nephew, William "Sonny" Evans of Morton, Mississippi; and her faithful dog, Precious.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Farris, parents, and brother, Charles Boyd.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiant: Rev. Andy Taylor. Pallbearers: Jim Carr, Ron Davis, Sonny Evans, Raymond Opela, Tommy Pagel, and Garrett Sims. Honorary Pallbearers: Kenneth Butschek, Lindsay Duty, Brittany Harrell, Mark Klekar, Gary Sims, and Harvey Steffek. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
