Obituary

Eilien Lindemann, 100, of Hallettsville, passed away May 8, 2021.  She was born on October 7, 1920, in New Ulm, Texas, to Emil Heitmann and Ella Peschel Heitmann.  She graduated from Industry High School and was a retired paraprofessional from the Hallettsville Independent School District.  She married Rubin Lindemann on July 14, 1938, in the Methodist Church in Bellville, Texas.

Eilien was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville, and a member of the Alma Circle.  She held a special place in her heart for the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Program, and the Reach to Recovery Program.  For twenty-seven years, she was the transportation coordinator for fifteen to twenty volunteer drivers, who took cancer patients to treatments centers in Victoria, Texas and M.D. Anderson in Houston & Richmond Texas.  Transportation was provided at no cost to the patients who had no other way to get to their treatment centers.  Under the A.C.S. Reach to Recovery Program, she visited women after they had undergone mastectomies, took a gift kit from the A.C.S. and showed them exercises to help them to fully recovery.

In 1993, she was given the Sword of Hope Award, and in 2002 the Dr. Everett Renger Sr. Annual Memorial Award.  In 1993, she was selected by the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce for the prestigious Citizen of the Year award.

Eilien was a member and past president & historian of the Hallettsville Reading Club.  She was very active in the Lavaca Medical Center Auxiliary, and collected aluminum cans at the hospital and from members, to benefit the hospital and the student scholarship program.  She was a member of the Hallettsville Garden Club where she received the Garden Club Member of the Year Award & Garden Club Citizen of the Year Award.  She was a member of the Lavaca County Retied Teachers where she received the 20 th Century Award.

After coordinating the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Program for twenty-seven years, she retired in August 2011.  During the 2012 Relay For Life, she was awarded the American Cancer Society High Plains Division 2011 Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award.

Eilien was a loving wife, mother, friend to many, and a tireless worker for her community.

Eilien and Hazel Timm coordinated a project to decorate the Monthly Birthday bulletin boards at Stevens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  She was also a member of the Friench Simpson Memorial Library, where she helped with their annual fund-raising events.  She was a member of the Lavaca County Chapter #8 of the Texas German Society.  Past volunteer with the Lavaca Historical Museum and the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce.

Eilien is survived by; daughter Becky Bohlmann & husband Frank of Schulenburg, son Larry Lindemann of Houston, two step grandchildren, five step great granddaughters and two step great great granddaughter.

Eilien was preceded in death by; her husband Rubin, parents and step mother Vaneida Heitmann.

Graveside Service: 10 am, Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Hallettsville City Cemetery. V isitation: from 5 pm to 7 pm, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Donor's Choice.
