Edwin was born on August 4, 1914 in Hallettsville to John and Teresa Chovanetz. He attended Hallettsville High School and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. He married Leona Pesek on September 16, 1940. They first made a living by working at Imperial Sugar in Sugarland, Texas for 11 years. They moved back to Hallettsville in 1945 and opened and operated City Bakery in Hallettsville, Texas for about 35 years. He then retired from City Bakery and raised cattle for his remaining life in Hallettsville, Texas.
Edwin was renowned for his dedication to the Hallettsville community and the Catholic Church. He was a volunteer fireman, member of the Hallettsville school Board, of the Hallettsville Hospital board, of the KJT, and KJZT. He was also a member of the Lions Club for over 30 years and served as a director and President for a number of years. He sponsored a Vietnamese family after the Vietnam War. He also dedicated many hours to the Sacred Heart Church picnics.
Edwin is survived by: wife Leona, sons Eddie and wife Tanya Chovanetz & Barry and wife Nelaida Chovanetz; daughter-in-law Earline Chovanetz; sister Evelyn Pavliska; and 5 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death: 2- sons William (Billy) & Bernard Chovanetz; 2-brothers Alfred & Fred Chovanetz; and 3-sisters Lillie Grahmann, Agnes, & Annie Chovanetz.
Pallbearers: Sean Chovanetz, Aaron Chovanetz, Koda Chovanetz, Alfred Clint Chovanetz, Henry De La Rosa, Mike Chovanetz. Honorary Pallbearer : Daniel Kuhn.
Service: 2pm Sunday October 7, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church. Visitation: 3pm Saturday October 6, 2007 at the Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7pm Saturday October 6, 2007 at Kubena Funeral Home; & 1:30pm Sunday at Sacred Heart Church. Officiate: Rev. John Peters Entombment: Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Hallettsville, TX
