Obituary

Edward E. Strauss, age 88, of Hallettsville, passed away peacefully into the hands of his Lord and Master on Saturday, April 6, 2019, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on November 13, 1930, to Charles A. Strauss and Julia Woytek Strauss of Hallettsville. He was a dedicated member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville, and member of the American Legion Post #230.

Edward served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954, and received a commendation for his outstanding performance of duty and numerous medals and awards for his dedicated service to our country.

Edward led a full life of love and devotion to his family, his friends, his country and God and was a very generous, talented, fun-loving, and hard-working man. He spent many years working in the oil field and was also a very skilled carpenter. In his spare time, you could always find him carrying his fishing pole down to one of the family tanks to catch some fish or heading into the woods with his .22 rifle prepared to bring home some squirrels to fry for Sunday lunch. He loved many things about life. Some of his greatest pastimes were gardening, hunting, fishing, playing bingo and dominoes, trying his luck at the casinos and riding around the countryside. He took great pride in the many hours that he spent cultivating and planting his spring and fall gardens and you could always depend on him to share his bountiful supply of vegetables with his family and neighbors.

Edward is survived by: his 2 sisters, Irene Fleming of Beaumont, Texas, and Ida Trojcak of Nederland, Texas; his longtime friend and companion, Doris Bethea; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Clarence and Daniel Strauss.
