Obituary

Edward Kurtz, 83, of Port O'Connor, formerly of Victoria, passed away March 28, 2011. He was born on October 25, 1927 to Rudolf & Verunica Mikes Kurtz in Shiner. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1948. He married in 1947 to Gussie Opela and had two children. He started with the Victoria Fire Department on November 15, 1951, promoted from Senior Captain to Assistant Chief in 1971, and retired as Assistant Chief in 1982. He then started as a house contractor and carpenter work in Port O'Connor area.

Edward is survived by: daughter Jeanette Henke & husband Robert of Hallettsville; 2 brothers, Ernest and Laddie Kurtz; sister Helen Shimek Malick; 2 grandchildren, Julie Regan & husband Patrick, and Monica Rivers & husband John; and 3 great grandchildren, Alison Regan, Cameron Rivers, and Jared Rivers.

Edward was preceded in death by: his son Patrick Kurtz; his parents; and 2 brothers, Daniel and Rudy Kurtz Jr.

Funeral Mass Service: 11 am, Thursday, March 31, 2011, at St Mary's Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Wednesday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with the family receiving visitors from 4pm to 6pm. Officiate: Rev. Joe Hybner. Pallbearers: Laddie Kurtz, Joey Kurtz, J.J. Malick, Robert Ortez, Martin Shimek, and Stanley Shimek. Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials: Hospice of South Texas.
