Obituary

Edna E. Haas, 87, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 9, 2011. She was born on April 19, 1924, to John & Frances Martisek Woytek in Lavaca County, Texas. She was the youngest of eleven children; six boys and five girls. She lost her mother at the age of 2 years and was raised by her older siblings. At the age of 22, she married Milton J. Haas on Aug. 21, 1946, in Hallettsville. She was a member of Herman & Sons Lodge #19, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Edna and her husband spent the early years following his work in the oilfield (drilling rigs), and after an accident in which her husband lost his arm, they settled in Hallettsville in 1959 at 201 Cathy Dr. Edna worked alongside her husband cooking and preparing food for all occasions through Lavaca County (noon Lions Club, Weddings).

Edna in 1974 received her G.E.D. through Victoria College. Edna worked at Stevens Nursing Home, Lavaca Medical Center and Hallettsville Rehab & Nursing Center cooking food in the dietary department. In March 1983, Edna received "Employee of the Quarter" from Lavaca Medical Center. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo, baking chocolate chip cookies, and homemade pies for her grandkids.

Edna lost her husband of 45 years to cancer in 1991, after spending months by his side caring for him through his illness. She was a gracious and gentle woman, even during the most trying times. She loved her family unconditionally, up to the very end. She was called to Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. She will be greatly missed by all and everybody that knew her. "An angel has returned to the Heavens."

Edna is survived by: 4 sons, Milton J. Haas Jr. & wife Linda of Hallettsville, Roger P. Haas & wife Kim of Littleton, CO, Michael R. Haas & wife Patty of Hurst, and David A. Haas & wife Nancy of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Edna was preceded in death by: her husband Milton; parents; 6 brothers, Edward F., Joe F., Victor J., Rudolph J., John C., and Pete A. Woytek; 4 sisters, Mary Siecko, Agnes Brown, Frances Brown, and Dolphie Pavlu; and great grandson Christopher Joseph Haas.

Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 4 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 7 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Pallbearers: Milton J. Haas III, Nathan L. Haas, Nicholas L. Haas, Benjamine Haas, Andrew Haas, and Johnny Woytek. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
