Obituary

Earl A. "Squirrel" Willett Sr., of Hallettsville, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, June 6th, 2009 at the age of 70. He was born on February 25, 1939 to Samuel & Florence Dowdell Willett in Houston. He was member of the Baptist faith.

Earl began his military career in the US Navy on February 25th, 1957 aboard the USS Yorktown until his honorable discharge on February 1963. Earl married Carolyn on April 25th, 1979 in Houston, Texas. In 1982 Earl and Carolyn decided to move to Vienna, Texas to enjoy the country life. Earl had many occupations during his life, but the most recent being at Walmart for 7 ½ years and stripes for almost 12 years in Hallettsville. Earl made many friends during his employment at Walmart and Stripes. Earl enjoyed fishing and hunting and was proud of the 10 point buck that he got last deer season. In 2004, Earl was diagnosed with cancer and he began the fight of his life. Earl "Squirrel" will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends.

Squirrel is survived by: his wife Carolyn; 4 sons, Earl Willett Jr. & wife Karen of Tennessee, Johnny Willett of Tennessee, Duane Willett & wife Valerie of Sublime, and Kenneth Willett & wife Gayle of Sublime; step-daughter Joyce Fuqua of Magnolia; brother Bill Willett of Magnolia; 2 sisters, Joyce Macon & husband Joe of Houston, and Windy Willett of Washington; 8 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Squirrel was preceded in death by his parents.

Service: 10 am, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 5 pm, Wednesday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Larry Smith. Burial: 2:30 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Houston National Cemetery.
