Doyleen Georgia Chromcak Drozd

Doyleen Georgia Chromcak Drozd, 84, of Hallettsville; a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on March 29, 2026.

Doyleen was born on January 20, 1942, to George Chromcak & Leona Schmand Chromcak as an only child and was raised in Moravia, Texas. On June 11, 1961, she married the love of her life, Harvey Drozd and together they built a life rooted in love, faith and family in Hallettsville. She then had a large family of 5 brothers and sister in laws. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Calvin and Dwayne and took great pride in raising them alongside her husband. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, KJZT and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Doyleen dedicated many years of her life to serving others as she had a great love of children. She worked at Gindler’s before beginning her role in September 1979, as a special education aide at Hallettsville Elementary School. In that role, she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness and gentle spirit until her retirement. She was a board member of the Hochheim Insurance Company and donated her time working the Lavaca County Elections for many years acting as a judge following her retirement.

Doyleen, lovingly known as “Granny” by many, was a proud grandmother to Ryan, Brittany, Shannon, Shane, Braden, and Shawn, and a devoted great-grandmother to Jaedyn, Brantley, McKenna, Laken, Zebulen, Maverick, Harlow and Woods. Some of her most cherished memories were the yearly family trips to Rockport, where everyone enjoyed fishing, swimming at the beach and she especially enjoyed spending quality time with her great-grandchildren. She collected pictures and enjoyed watching her family grow. She had an appetite for life and enjoyed traveling across the United States with her husband and friends, especially to New Braunfels with her cousins and to Branson, Missouri—two of her favorite destinations. When she and Harvey weren’t traveling, they spent much of their time at the family farm in Moravia, enjoying quiet moments on the porch or beneath the shade of the trees.

Doyleen was known throughout the community for her warm heart and friendly nature. She had many dear friends in town and was always on the go—driving around, attending local picnics and delivering dinner to friends and family. She never met a stranger and was always happy to share a piece of candy and a conversation with anyone she met or who came to visit her.

Doyleen will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her servant’s heart and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

Doyleen is survived by: her sons, Calvin Drozd & wife Patricia of Brookshire and Dwayne Drozd & wife Marilyn of Hallettsville; her grandchildren, Brittany Drozd, Shannon Grahmann & husband Jeremy, Shane Drozd & wife Kelsie and Braden Drozd; her great-grandchildren, Jaedyn Grahmann, Brantley Grahmann, McKenna Drozd, Laken Drozd, Zebulen Purvis, Maverick Grahmann, Harlow Drozd and Woods Drozd; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Doyleen is now reunited in heaven with her; loving husband Harvey Drozd, grandsons Ryan Drozd and Shawn Drozd, her parents George & Leona Chromcak, Bobbie Lee Drozd, Clarence Drozd and Bill Drozd.
