Dorothy Ann (Treptow) Sicko, 84, of Hallettsville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024.  She was born on March 5, 1940, to Alfred and Josephine (Ehler)Treptow in Lavaca County on the family farm in the Old Kinkler area.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville and has been an active member of both the American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries.

As a young child, Dorothy grew up on the farm with her parents and only sister, Rosalie Tobola.  Together they shared many hours playing and doing chores, such as picking cotton, milking the cow and goat, and tending to the chickens and many other animals on the farm.  For three years she walked about a half mile to attend Kinkler School, a two-room country school.  She then attended the public school in Hallettsville where she graduated in 1958.  At the age of 16 she started working at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store and later at Timm's Grocery Store, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Lester Sicko.  They were united in marriage by Rev. Alois J. Morkovsky on February 21, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.

Dorothy and Lester resided in Cuero for the first seventeen years of their marriage, where she worked for H. E.B.  She was a dedicated employee winning the "Employee of the Month Award" many times over the years.  In 1981, they moved back to Hallettsville to be closer to the family.  She continued to drive to Cuero to work at H.E.B. for another four years.  Lester had begun his own business, Lester's Produce where she also helped him take orders and make deliveries on her days off.  After a while she stopped working for H.E.B to help Lester with his growing business.  Together they delivered fresh fruit and vegetables to all the neighboring towns of Shiner, Moulton, Yoakum, Schulenburg, and Hallettsville.  Around 1990, when Lester decided to retire from his business, she began working at Hoffer's Drive-In Grocery, where she enjoyed working with the "Hoffer's Bunch" and made many friends. She greeted every customer with a smile and went above and beyond making sure the customers were appreciated.  She continued working there for over 25 years, until retiring in 2016 to take care of Lester, until his passing.

If you knew Dorothy well, you knew of her soft spot for animals.  From early childhood she had a special bond with animals.  Over the years she had many pets that included dogs, cats, and ring-necked doves.  She also enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers, picking pecans, and helping Lester tend to their cattle. Listening to country music, polkas and waltzes, and watching the Mollie B. Polka Show made her happy.  She was especially fond of Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Hank Williams Sr., Elvis Presley, and watching John Wayne movies with Lester.  Another favorite hobby of hers was shopping at garage sales and thrift stores, especially LAMB, which she called "Dillard's."  She was one of their best customers because she couldn't pass up a "good bargain."  It is fitting that Jesus chose to take her home to be reunited with Lester during Springtime, as this was her favorite season of the year.  She especially adored all the wildflowers and wouldn't let anyone mow them down until well after they went to seed.  Dorothy and Lester were active members in the community being involved with the American Legion, VFW, and were supporters of the Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show.

A special "thank you" to Hospice of South Texas and to the staff and employees of Hallettsville Nursing and Rehab where she has resided and received wonderful care for past six and a half years.  Dorothy made many new friends and was loved by the staff and was frequently called "Aunt Dorothy" by many of the employees.  Thank you also to Dr. Dugi in Cuero and Dr. Wilkinson and the staff at the Lavaca Medical Center for their years of care.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, adoring sister, aunt, neighbor and friend with a loving, kind, and generous heart.  Even though they weren't blessed with children, Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Lester made sure their nieces and nephews were remembered on every holiday, birthday, and special occasion.  She will be missed by many.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Rosalie Tobola of Hallettsville and numerous nieces & nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by:  her husband Lester, parents; brother-in-law Hubert Tobola; sisters-in-law, Katherine Sykes, Lorene Schumacker, Hallie Eiland, Hilda Massey, Annita Patterson, Hulda Sicko and Pearlie Naumann-Wetjen; two brothers-in-law, Harry & Fritz Sicko along with their spouses.

Funeral Mass Service: 2 PM, Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville; with Visitation starting at 12:30 PM; and Rosary starting at 1:30 P.M. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Pallbearers (included nephews): David Tobola, Marvin Tobola, Robert Tobola, Daniel Loos, Donnie Bludau, Brian Porter and Melvin Grahmann. Honorary Pallbearers: include all great nieces and nephews. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Hospice of South Texas, Sacred Heart Catholic Church or donor's choice.
