Doris went through high school in Yorktown, and then attended college in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University for four years. While attending the Washington University, she also attended the St. Louis Institute of Music on a scholarship. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology, and a Master's of Education at Texas A&I in Kingsville. She worked in the Mission Independent School District in Mission, Texas at several positions before teaching there for 29 years.
Doris was a member of: Delta Kappa Gamma, Roe, Epsilon Upsilon, Alpha Phi, Lavaca County Retired Teachers, and the Alma Circle at the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville. She also worked as a volunteer at the Lavaca County Historical Museum in Hallettsville.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral Service: 2 pm, Monday, June 4, 2012, at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 12 (noon), Monday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Lundy Hooten. Pallbearers: John Mills, Glenn Schulte, Andy Anderson, Friench Simpson Tarkington, Henry Muenster, Dr. Ralph Wagner, and Jessie Allen. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Memorials: Charity of your choice.
