October 7, 1923 – August 25, 2012
After 20 years, Doris Sciba retired from Lavaca County as a Deputy County Clerk. She was a long-time member of Hallettsville Garden Club, having served twice as president, and long-time member of Hackberry-Shiloh Homemaker's serving in several offices. She was awarded her fifty year pin from Hermann Sons and also held several offices there. She was active in St. Peter Lutheran Church with World Relief Quilters, and Women in Mission. She taught Sunday School for a number of years, and served on the Church Council. She was very much loved.
Doris is survived by: 2 grandsons, Eli Bohumil Sciba & wife Stephanie of Manvel, and Zachary Dean Sciba of San Marcos; daughter-in-law Shirley Herman Sciba of Sweet Home; sister Nina Thompson & husband George of Birmingham, Alabama; 2 great grandchildren, Draq Anthony & Brandan Lawrence Sciba of Manvel; 4 step great grandchildren, Vanessa Funentes, Andrea Huerta, Susanna & Sarah Salinas; 4 step great great grandchildren, Natalie & Danny Fuentes, Nicholas & Nathan Huerta; 2 nephews, Marc Thompson & wife Sharon Birmingham, Alabama, and A.L. "Big Butch" Sciba & wife Teddy Rush of Vienna; and 2 grandnieces, Karri & Rebecca Thompson.
Doris was preceded in death by: her husband Pete; son Lawrence Delmar "Little Butch" Sciba; and parents.
Memorial Service: 10 am, Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville, TX. Visitation: 9 am, Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Officiate: Rev Dr. Alan Williams. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): St. Peter Lutheran Fellowship Hall or Donor's Choice.
