Obituary

Donald Ray Laas, 61, of Hallettsville passed away March 19, 2015.  He was born on December 7, 1953 to Clarence and Dollie Laas in Hallettsville. He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1972, and spent 2 years at Victoria College. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Stegint, on October 26, 1974 at Saint Rose in Schulenburg. He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.

Donald can be described as an avid outdoorsman.  He loved to hunt, fish and farm. He was also a dedicated worker at Imco for 22 years as a supervisor and he worked the last 5 years at Dairy Farmers in Schulenburg.  Donald was a man with a big heart; especially for the kids of the FFA.  He provided them with show pigs year after year; his greatest reward was the smiles it put on their faces.  As we reflect on our moments and thoughts of Donald, one thing is for sure, we have shared lots of memories.  We all love him and will miss him dearly, but we have great stories to remember and tell!

Donald is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Laas; his mother, Dollie Laas, of Hallettsville; his Godchildren, Kenny Helmcamp (wife Gwen) of Weimer and Tori Tate of Houston; brothers-in-laws, Edward Stegint of Houston and Harry Stegint (wife Danielle) also of Houston; his aunt Joann Helmcamp of Weimer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by: his paternal and maternal grandparents; his father, Clarence Laas; his father-in-law, Felix Stegint and mother-in-law Catherine Stegint; and his sister-in-laws, Frances Stegint and Dorothy Johnson.
