Obituary

Doloris Mae Leopold, 78, of Hallettsville, passed away Sept. 30, 2018. She was born on March 7, 1940, 4 th of 5 children to Jim & Willie Mae Kahanek in Hallettsville.

Doloris attended what was then Southwest Texas University of San Marcos and was extremely proud of her role as a Southwest Texas Strutter, while earning her teaching degree. Her highlights as a strutter were--performing in the Cotton Bowl parade and President John F. Kennedy's inaugural parade.

Doloris married Charles H. Leopold on February 1st, 1964 and had two daughters, Kelly Rush of Oregon and Wendy Janak of Hallettsville. She was fondly known as "Granny D" to her 8 grandchildren.

Doloris started her teaching career at Rice in Sheridan. After her retirement from Hallettsville Elementary School she taught part time at Sacred Heart School. Only her passion for teaching could rival the expectations she had for her students, as well as her own children. She truly believed in her students and never gave up on trying to help each of them reach their full potential. She loved to read and teach others to read. After her final retirement she continued to make an impact with private tutoring and sponsoring copies of various classic children's books for the first grade students at Sacred Heart School. With charisma and flare, she would then enjoy reading the sponsored book to the class.

Doloris was renowned for sending cards and never missing a friend or family's birthday or anniversary. She knew the importance of being thankful and sending a "thank you" note. She was always quick to praise someone for their accomplishments, no matter how large or small. She was prim and proper, but she also knew how to have a good time. She will be missed by many.

Doloris is survived by: her husband Charles; 2 daughters, Kelly Rush & husband Grant of Oregon, and Wendy Janak & husband Buck of Hallettsville; 8 grandchildren, Myles, Kelton, Braden & Zane Rush and Jacob, Jules, Timber & Willow Janak; and her sister Marie Michalec of Houston.

Doloris was predeceased by: her parents; and 3 brothers, Jessie, Jimmie Kahanek and infant brother.
