Diana Delores (Orsak) Svetlik,79, of Hallettsvile, passed peacefully with those she loved on June 20, 2026. She was born October 5, 1946, to Emith and Irene (Kresta) Orsak. She led a life dedicated to her family and always put the needs of others before herself.
As the only daughter with six brothers, Diana grew up tough with a sharp tongue and a quick wit. There are many, many funny stories of her adventures on the farm with her brothers. She graduated from Hallettsville High School and went on to become an LVN with a focus on obstetrics. She loved babies and was very proud of her nursing career. After a whirlwind romance, she married Robert Svetlik on July 13, 1968, and would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this year. She was a great domino player and would make everyone laugh with her trash talk in Czech across the domino table, especially when she was winning against her husband. When you think about the depth of her love for her family, consider all of the wonderful meals and desserts that she made that she could not enjoy or even taste due to her lifelong gluten allergy. Her family always came first.
Diana was an amazing Mom to her three sons and favorite daughter and could always be relied upon to make it all make sense. Her straightforward, tell it like it is style put us all on the right path in life. She was always there to put our crises into perspective and was always the first to stand up to help in the truly hard times that came our way. Her calm words of “it will be alright tomorrow” and “just do the best you can” were the best advice and a true comfort. We all loved her funny one liners in Czech or in English and gentle razzing around the dinner or domino table. You always knew she loved you as long as she was giving you a hard time.
Diana’s grandchildren were her absolute joy. She spoiled them rotten with Blue Bell Ice Cream, root beer floats, her famous casserole and punch bowl cake, and all the little cokes and orange crush they could drink. Memories of “Grandkid Week”, the cowtrough pool, mudholes and all of the country fun on the farm, including locking Granny in the goose pen, will always be cherished. She called her children and grandchildren her “blessings”. She would often remark: “Did you ever think I would have such smart children and grandchildren?” She would beam with pride and made a point to be present for every milestone for each grandchild.
Diana was our smart, beautiful, witty, funny, character of a Mom and Granny. Her memory will live on in our hearts. Whenever we see a baby smile, baby calves playing, hear doves cooing, or sit on her porch to talk and watch the sunset over Breslau, she will be remembered. She taught us true happiness in life is reflected in those you love and appreciation of the small joys that God brings.
Diana is survived by: her husband Robert Svetlik; sons, Chuck Svetlik (Jennifer) and Steve Svetlik; daughter Monica Janacek (Chris); her eight grandchildren, Kelsey Proske (Doran), Makayla Svetlik, Ashley Svetlik, Emily Svetlik, Michael Svetlik, Melanie Janacek, Sam Janacek, and Nathan Janacek; three beautiful great grandchildren, Will Bower, Lace Proske and Clara Proske; and four brothers, Emith Orsak, Stanley Orsak (Henrietta), David Orsak (Lisa) and Gary Orsak (Rhonda).
Diana was preceded in death by, her son Robert Jr, brothers, Marvin and Daniel Orsak and her parents.
