Obituary

Delbert Wayne Henry, 70, of Hallettsville, TX, passed on to his heavenly home on August 1, 2020 after being brought home from the hospital with the care of hospice.  He was in the comfort of his loving wife of 50 years.  He had a long battle with illness including cancer that he fought to the very end.  He never wanted the cancer to get the upper hand and in the end he beat it, succumbing to the effects of his chronic illnesses.

Delbert was born in Hallettsville, TX on January 6, 1950, son of the late Charles E. Henry and Elizabeth M. Henry.  He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1968.  He married his high school sweetheart, Jean Honish, soon after and started their family. Early on Delbert provided for his family working for jobs including Prototype Machine Works and Smith Farms in Flatonia.  He worked hard, eventually settling into a trucking career at Better Beverages in Hallettsville for over 30 years.  His trademark side tilted cowboy hat and no nonsense trucker stance behind the wheel landed him his nickname "The Bandit".  He loved to tell stories of his trucking adventures and experiences.

Delbert was a member of the TSRA and NRA. He was a firm believer in honesty, hard work and loyalty. Delbert enjoyed western movies, TV shows and books.  Hobbies included reading, watching his favorite shows and spending time with his family. He was a strong foundation and pillar for his family and will always be remembered for his genuine character and kind soul by those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Delbert is survived by, his spouse Emilie Jean Henry; and his 3 sons, John C. Henry & spouse Carol Henry, William (Billy) D. Henry, Steven P. Henry; and daughter Sandra K. Armstrong & spouse Jonathan (Robbie) Armstrong.  He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Courtney Muske & spouse Jed Muske, Hayden Henry, Paige Henry, Spencer Henry, Zoey Armstrong, Madeline Armstrong, Lila Armstrong, and Rowen Armstrong.

Delbert was preceded in death by; daughter Tammy L. Henry, brother Gary A. Henry; grandparents, Guy & Evelyn Henry, Fritz & Minnie Steinberg; in-laws Paul & Emilie Honish, and brother in law Larry Golden.
