David Edward Demny, 100, of Hallettsville, passed away Nov. 24, 2019. He was born on Oct. 7, 1919, to John & Mary Laskoski Demny in Chappel Hill, Texas. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
David served as a Marine in WWII, 1943-45, with Tractor Battalion, Fourth Division in support of the Fifth Division. They landed on the Mariana Islands, Saipan, Guam, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.
During the Great Depression, David went to a trade school in Houston achieving the skill of becoming a Master Welder, which served him the rest of his life as well as his time in the U.S. Marines.
David was beloved by his brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. He was a favorite story teller of all the children, beloved for his kind heart, generous spirit, his faith, and steadfast manner. He inspired generations of nieces and nephews to follow his good example hunting, ranching and raising cattle, learning to work hard, loyalty to family, helping others, and faith in God.
David's reverence and practice of his faith abided him as a keystone of his life. He left big shoes, an even bigger heart for the youngest of his namesakes to follow in. We love you and we will each remember you for the particular impact you had in our lives as you go to your eternal rest with our Lord and Savior.
David is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by; 1 st wife Minnie Demny, 2 nd wife Lillie Demny; 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral Mass Service: 10 am, Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: John Busch, Lavern Buesing, Marvin Holuk, John Demny, Tom Loehr, and Jerry Studlar. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery or Donor's Choice. Burial (graveside): 2 pm, Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue, Houston, Texas.
