Obituary

On March 19, 2025, David Francis Buzek, 72, of Hallettsville, Texas, joyfully entered his eternal Home embraced by the love of Jesus Christ.  Born to Victor and Leona Gerlich Buzek on March 1, 1953, He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

David attended Hallettsville High School, he dedicated many years to his work as a skilled heavy-equipment operator, particularly excelling in running bulldozers.  Beyond his profession, his true vocation was his unwavering commitment to his faith and community.  As a cherished Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Hallettsville, he lovingly served his church family with his warm smile, helpful spirit, and boundless generosity.  He never met a stranger, greeting everyone with kindness and joy.

David's life blossomed with the arrival of his two daughters, Becky and Lisa, whom he raised with devotion as a single parent.  In 1991, his life was forever changed when he met Alva Vavrusa, the love of his life.  Their marriage on October 4, 1996, united their families, including Alva's daughters, Jennifer and Carrie McDonald, who became like his own.  Together, David and Alva embraced life's simple blessings, praying and reading the Bible together, cheering on the Astros, tending their garden, and relishing family time.

Family gatherings were a cornerstone of David's life, especially during holidays or impromptu celebrations.  Whether playing straight dominoes, 42 dominoes, or the cherished card game tarock, he brought laughter and his love of Jesus to every occasion.  A seasoned participant in Texas State Domino Tournaments, his skill and playful enthusiasm made him a memorable opponent.

Among David's many passions, few compared to his love for operating his bulldozer.  He found satisfaction in creating as he cleared brush, dug tanks, and created locations for oil & gas companies.  Yet, above all, his deepest devotion was reserved for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  His life embodied selflessness and humility, always putting others first—whether family, friends, or his church community.  From greeting and assisting others to cleaning, cooking and offering a helping hand whenever needed, his tireless efforts were a testament to his servant's heart.

David's legacy will continue to inspire his loved ones and all who knew him.  He leaves behind:  his beloved wife of 28 years, Alva; daughters, Rebecca Buzek and Lisa Buzek; stepdaughters, Jennifer McDonald and Carrie McDonald; grandchildren, Alyssa and Dennis Mathews and Braxton (Savanah) Vavrusa; great-grandchildren, Kasen and Karsen; sisters, Betty (Harvey) Woytek, Denise (Leslie) Pohl, Melissa (Ben) Leita and Genevieve (Jamie) Carroll; brothers, Joe (Diane) Buzek and Gary (Jodi); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

David is reunited in heaven with his parents and sisters, Kathleen Chovanetz and Janie Wolf.
