Daniel Robert Melnar, 78, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away peacefully Monday, January 13, 2020, at Citizens Hospital in Victoria. He was born on May 17, 1941, to Robert L. and Beatrice D. Melnar in Hallettsville.
Daniel was raised around Mont, he attended primary school in the area and graduated high school from Sacred Heart Catholic School. After graduation in 1959, he enlisted in the Army and was deployed to France where he spent the majority of his time until his discharge in 1962. Upon his return to the United States he went to work for Baker Oil Tools in Victoria and became engaged to Mathilda M. Gerbermann.
Daniel and Mathilda were married on August 10, 1963 in New Tatum, Texas and moved to Houston, Texas where Daniel went to work for Devoe ICI Paints, where he would remain until retiring after 36 years of service. He returned to Hallettsville after retiring in 1999 to build a homestead, take care of his parents, and become a rancher.
Daniel was a loving Christian man, husband, dad, and granddad as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, the local American Legion and St. Pio Vocation Club. He had a special love for the Astros like his father and would never miss watching a game. He loved his hobbies which included playing dominoes, golf, hunting and fishing trips to Colorado, with his brothers, trips to the casinos, and evenings of tarock.
Daniel is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years Mathilda Melnar; his children, Sandra Melnar Johnson of Lewisville, TX, and Rodney Melnar & wife Janet of Bellville, TX; his five grandchildren, Tiffany Johnson, Brittany Johnson Kiral & husband Shane, Taylr Johnson, Steffan Melnar, and Garrett Melnar; his two great-grandchildren, Laina Kiral and Lyla Kiral; 2 brothers, Gilbert A. Melnar & wife Faye, and Robert J. Melnar & wife Sylvia; and sister Virginia "Ginny" Appelt & husband Gary.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beatrice Melnar.
Funeral Mass Service : 10 am, Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Friday at Kubena Funeral Home; with the Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: Shane Kiral, Garrett Melnar, John Melnar, Darryl Melnar, Steffan Melnar, and Dwayne Wick. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Pio Vocation Club, or Donor's choice. Burial: St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Koerth.
