Daniel George Drozd, 85, of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2026. He was born in Hallettsville on September 16, 1940, to Jerome Eugene Drozd & Annilee Brunkenhoefer Drozd.
Daniel graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1959. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1963. He faithfully served the Hallettsville community throughout a remarkable 60-year career as a pharmacist, working at Hruzek’s Pharmacy, Eilers Pharmacy and Brookshire Brothers Pharmacy.
Daniel met Bobby Lee Cole in the eighth grade. After an on-and-off courtship spanning nearly ten years, they were married on October 3, 1965, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. Some may have thought they were marrying too soon, but Daniel and Bobby knew they had already found their lifelong partners. Together, they began a loving journey surrounded by family and friends.
Daniel and Bobby loved to dance and spent many joyful years following Czech polka bands. Dancing was especially meaningful during the early years of their marriage, when the entire Drozd family would attend dances together. If someone whistled a tune, Daniel and Bobby were ready to dance. They also enjoyed several years of square dancing.
They welcomed their son Robert Lee Drozd, on August 30, 1968, followed by their daughter Lee Drozd, on June 16, 1971.
Daniel and Bobby proudly watched Robert graduate from Hallettsville High School and Southwest Texas State University, where he met his future wife, Cally Thompson. Daniel and Bobby lovingly welcomed Cally into the family. Robert and Cally later blessed them with two grandchildren, Zachary Daniel Drozd and Kathryn “Katy” Lee Drozd, who affectionately knew Daniel as “Popo.”
After graduating from high school, Lee joined the United States Army. She served in military intelligence with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Gulf War and later became a warrant officer and Black Hawk helicopter pilot. Her calling was helping and rescuing those in need. Lee completed two tours in Afghanistan and later trained other pilots at Fort Rucker, Alabama, before retiring after 20 years of distinguished military service.
Daniel had a deep passion for his community, his church, and his Czech heritage. A talented musician, he played tenor saxophone in several polka bands, including the Rudy Kurtz Band in the 1960s. For many years, as a member of the Czech choir, he sang Czech-language hymns at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church during special occasions like Czech Heritage Month and funeral services. He was also a member of the Texas Czech Heritage Society and SPJST. A longtime and devoted member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, he faithfully served in numerous leadership roles and on various committees. He also ministered to residents of local skilled nursing facilities, bringing Holy Communion, prayer, companionship, and comfort to those in need.
Daniel is survived by: his son Robert Drozd & wife Cally of Leander; his daughter Lee Drozd of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Zachary Drozd & wife Emilee of Murchison and Kathryn Drozd of Leander; and his great-grandchildren, Weston, Walker and Magnolia.
Daniel was preceded in death by: his beloved wife Bobby Drozd; his parents Jerome & Annilee Drozd; his brothers, Clarence, Bill and Harvey Drozd; and his sisters-in-law Doyleen and Barbara Drozd.
Daniel lived a life of faith, service, music, and devotion to his family. He has now been reunited with Bobby and those who went before him and has gone home to be with Christ.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville on Friday, July 17th at 3:00pm followed by a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Breslau Lutheran Cemetery, P.O. Box 903, Hallettsville, Texas 77964.
