IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clarence Adam
(Cak) Drozd
March 30, 1944 – February 17, 2019
Clarence Adam (CAK) Drozd, 74, of Hallettsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2019. He was born on March 30, 1944 to Jerome Sr. and Annilee Drozd, in Hallettsville. He was the third of six children. He married Judy Laqua on May 13, 1972 and together raised three children.
Clarence attended both Breslau Community School and Hallettsville High School. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
In 1965, Clarence joined the US Army Reserve's 1st Battalion, 357th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division, Reinforcement Training Unit (RTU) located in Yoakum, TX. The unit was deactivated in 1968 and became the 352nd Engineer Company. He drove large military dump trucks in the new unit. He attended Army Basic Training at Fort Polk, LA where he earned the expert marksmanship badge with the M-14 rifle. He attained the rank of Private First Class (E-3).
Clarence began working at Weingarten's Poultry Processing plant in Hallettsville with his brothers Harvey and Jerome Jr. Shortly thereafter, he became an electrician alongside Tommy Mertz and Larry Laqua with Droemer Electric, Inc. He played an important role in the construction of local high schools and libraries at Giddings, Eagle Pass, Livingston, Comanche, and Gonzales. However, this caused him to be away from his family so he decided to change his career when his daughter Tracy was soon to arrive. He ultimately spent the majority of his career as a maintenance technician working for the Mid-America Farms Dairy Processing Plant in Schulenburg. He finished his career working with his younger brother Bill at the Lavaca Housing Authority. After ten years working as a maintenance technician there, he decided to officially retire around 2008.
Clarence's greatest passion was his small 50-acre ranch in Witting affectionately called the "Other Place". He loved to sit on the porch and watch his cattle graze in the hope of random wildlife passing by. He spent countless hours keeping the property groomed so that he and his family and friends could hunt and fish. In addition, he knew how to cook for his family. Everyone's favorite was "Popo's Pancakes" and his famous BBQ red mop sauce recipe which was used by his daughter to win First Place at the Fiddler's Frolics BBQ competition.
Clarence is survived by: his wife Judy; 3 children, Patrick Drozd & wife Christina, Leslie Drozd & wife Michelle, and Tracy Leopold & husband Brad (BJ); 8 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Tiffany, Hannah, Hailey, Haven, Lana, Summer and Adam; and 5 brothers, Daniel G. (FRITZ) Drozd, Harvey J. (MUTZ) Drozd, Billy R. (WILLY) Drozd, Jerome E. (BEEP) Drozd Jr., and Michael L. Drozd.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Jerome Sr. and Annilee Drozd.
