IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles (Zero)
Zavesky
May 3, 1923 – September 9, 2007
Charles joined the Navy in 1942 and served in WWII until 1946 and the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 as a barber. He was also a barber and gunsmith in Hallettsville for over 50 years. He loved life and always had a good story to tell or listen to at Charlie's barbershop on the square.
People often wondered how he got the nickname "Zero". As an exceptional marksman he could zero in on a target, and therefore, was named King of the 1957 May Feast in Appelt's Hill.
He loved to hunt, fish, and shoot guns. He was an avid camper and outdoors man that started his sons hunting and fishing at a very young age. Together they enjoyed hunting mule deer in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona. He also loved to hunt whitetail deer and doves all over Texas. He was an excellent bass fisherman, catching many large fish in his lifetime, including three bass near ten pounds each.
Charles is survived by: 3 sons, Daniel Zavesky & wife Billye of Hallettsville, Randall Zavesky & wife Rita of Manvel, and Eric "Ricky" Zavesky & wife Karen of Hallettsville; sister Mary Windham of Columbus; 4 grandchildren, Russell Zavesky, Wendy Vacek, Clay Zavesky, and Kim Rose; and 2 great grandchildren, Slade and Mason Vacek.
Charles was preceded in death by: wife Tootsie on May 10, 1999; and his parents.
Known as Daddy to his sons, Pappaw to his grandkids, Big Gampaw to his great-grandkids, and Zero to his friends, He will be missed by many!
