Obituary

Charles "Chuck" William Patek, 85, of Hallettsville, passed away on March 29, 2012.  He was born on April 2, 1926 to William & Margaret Blake Patek in Palestine, Texas.  He married Henrie Mae Hruzek on July 11, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Chuck graduated from Gonzales High School in Gonzales, Tx. in 1943. He then moved to Beaumont, Tx. where he worked with his uncle James Patek until 1944.

Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy on March 10, 1944, served his County in WWII for 2 years.  He received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

After getting an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, he graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1946. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Soon afterwards he went to work for DuPont in Victoria, Tx. as an accountant.

Chuck became a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 1953 after marrying Henri Mae, then moved to Hallettsville taking a job as City Secretary where he worked for many years. He attended mass every weekend and was involved with the church picnics by offering his accounting skills wherever he could.

Chuck was involved in many organizations in the Hallettsville community during his life such the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight; Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture; Lions Club; Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department; American Legion; and VFW. He was also a member of the Texas City Manager Association and was certified in Governmental Accounting & Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.

Chuck retired as a city manager of Navasota, and moved back to Hallettsville with his wife to spend his retirement years.  Didn't take long and he was working again with bookkeeping and tax accounting work for many locals within the community.  He worked until 6 months prior his death, and enjoyed his self-employment years immeasurably.

Chuck loved any kind of sports, and it was not uncommon to go by the house and catch him watching his favorite teams, the Houston Astros or during football seasons the Houston Oilers.  Chuck was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman throughout his life, and spent many years at the Fredericksburg deer lease with his son Michael, and best friend Alvin Langhammer of Schulenburg.   He always got his deer on opening morning, never failed.

Chuck loved his grandkids and always looked forward to them coming to the house on Main St. for holidays and other gatherings.

We love you Dad, and we miss you very much.  You are at home now and at peace with our Lord God.

Chuck is survived by: daughter Margaret Quinn & husband Robin of Edna; son Michael Patek & wife Tammie of Victoria; brother Billy Patek & wife Kitty of Lumberton, TX; and 3 grandchildren, Breeann & Mikayla Patek of Victoria, and Jeremy Waters of San Antonio.
