Obituary

Charles Anthony Netardus was born October 31, 1946, at the Netardus family homestead in Wied, Texas, to Vaclav (James) Netardus and Mary Nevlud Netardus. On October 20, 2018, at the age of 71, he entered into his eternal rest. He passed peacefully at his home with his family by his side after an extensive battle with cancer. Charles married Angeline Roznovsky Netardus, his high school sweetheart, on May 4, 1968, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. Together they have five children. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of this year.

After graduation from St. Paul High School in Shiner, Texas, Charles joined the United States Army and later the National Guard, serving our country for eight years. He went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation in 1966, and retired after 32 years of service in 1997. After a short period of retirement, he was elected as Lavaca County Commissioner Precinct 1, and served as Commissioner for 12 years. After a second retirement in 2012, he enjoyed spending time at home with his wife and family.

Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3081, the KJT, and the American Legion Post 571. He also served on the Board of Trustees for both Vysehrad and Shiner Catholic School. He served his parish in many ways including CCD Teacher, Parish Council Member, and Eucharistic Minister.

Charles is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Angeline; and children, Cindy Petru (Billy) of Shiner, Mark Netardus (fiancé Holly) of Shiner, Bernadette Nieto (Edward) of Moulton, Monica Zimmermann (Anthony) of Victoria, and Allen Netardus (Sarah) of Shiner. He is also survived by: 12 grandchildren, Dalton, Lindsey (Colby Hensel) and Luke Petru, Jaydon, Caleb and Reese Nieto, Cassidy, Wyatt, Blaine and Mia Zimmermann, Tilde and Cora Netardus; brother and sister-in-law Vaclav and Victoria Netardus; sister Mary Ann Pustka; sister-in-law Jeannette Netardus; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by: his parents James and Mary Netardus; brother Ben Netardus, and infant brother, Frank Netardus.

Funeral Mass Service : 1 pm, Wednesday Oct. 24, 2018, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church of Shiner. Visitation: 5 pm, Tuesday at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7:30 pm. Pallbearers: Grandsons, Dalton Petru, Jaydon Nieto, Luke Petru and Caleb Nieto, Nephew, Kenneth Netardus, and close friend, Bev Osburn. Honorary Pallbearers: Grandchildren, Lindsey Petru, Reese Nieto, Cassidy, Wyatt, Blaine and Mia Zimmermann, Tilde and Cora Netardus, as well as close friends JR Peters, Micah Harmon, Tramer Woytek and Harvey Matusek. Officiant: Rev. Bryan Heyer .  Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Hospice of South Texas, or donor's choice. Burial: St. Ludmila Cemetery in Wied, Texas.
