Obituary

Charles (Charlie) J Koncaba Sr., 68, of Hallettsville, passed away on May 1, 2021.  He was born Feb 6, 1953 to George Sr. & Rose Marie Koncaba in Hallettsville, TX.  Starting at a young age, most people remember Charlie helping his dad George run his milk route around Hallettsville.  Once Charlie was old enough, he was hired to work at Schlinder's Gulf Station in Hallettsville.  After marrying Charlene (Rother) in 1972, Charlie worked at Tex-Tan for a short period of time until he found a career opportunity to start managing a Moo-Moo's Drive-In.  From 1972 to 1977, Charlie managed Moo-Moo's Drive-In locations in Yoakum, Bay City, Port Lavaca and Victoria.  Following his time with Moo-Moo's, Charlie found a new opportunity going to work for Frito-Lay, Inc.  He started out his career with Frito Lay, Inc as a route sales person and quickly advanced to district supervisor.  He remained district supervisor until his departure from the company in 1982.

In 1982, Charlie's and Charlene's ambitious nature and their love of automobiles lead them to venture out into self-employment. They opened their first vehicle sales lot in Gonzales, Texas along with a service station and mini grocery store.  In 1984, they moved their car business to their home town of Hallettsville, Texas.  Known for many years as Wholesale Autos, the and name was eventually changed to Frontline Motors in 2008.  Charles and Charlene worked side by side in their thriving business for over 30 years along with many faithful employees.  Personal care and attention to each and every customer resulting in many repeat customers and lifelong friendships.

Charlie was an avid fan of muscle cars.  During his life, he had two prized possessions.  In early adulthood, he owned a gold 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6.  In his later years, he enjoyed his black 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which still remains in our family today.

In his down time, Charlie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Dominos, drinking a cold beer or laying in his favorite spot on the couch watching TV.  Charlie and Charlene were devoted NASCAR fans and watched many race seasons together.  Other times, Charlie chose old western movies and documentaries on the History and NASA channels.  Occasionally, he would venture out into the Lifetime Movie Network with Charlene.

Charlie will be greatly missed by his loving wife, children and grandchildren, and many other family and friends.  He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend with a kind, giving nature.

Charlie is survived by:  his wife Charlene; son Charles Koncaba Jr. & wife Nicole; daughter Charlotte Ponish; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Ponish, Tyler Bartos, Raegan Koncaba and Weston Koncaba; brother George Koncaba Jr.; and 4 sisters, Sally Maulding, Rosemary Rothbauer, Lisa Henneke and Barbara Smoot.
