Obituary

Carol Robinson Archer passed away at the age of 93 on September 23, 2017, in Hallettsville, Texas, her home since 1981. She was born on July 5, 1924, in Smiley, Texas, to Nixon and Lila Robinson.

In the early 1940s, Carol attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, where she was a soloist in the TLC choir. Her beauty and her voice caught the eye and the ear of a handsome basketball player, newly arrived from Alabama, Barney Archer. He taught her about Bama football, but she had no luck teaching him to sing. They were married on January 29, 1944.

Barney's career with the Southern Pacific Railroad meant that frequent moves became part of their lives with moves to San Antonio, El Paso, Valentine, Lafayette, Louisiana, back to San Antonio, and finally to Houston in 1959.

In 1961, Carol began working at Battelstein's in the newly built Sharpstown Mall in southwest Houston where she eventually became the manager of the gift department which she loved because of her passion for beautiful china and glassware.

During their retirement years, Carol and Barney watched lots of Alabama football games, raised and showed Bull Mastiff dogs, and adopted every dog and cat that appeared in their yard.

Carol is survived by daughter, Diana Loving and husband, Richard of Houston; 3 nieces, Nancy Diehl of San Antonio, Dr. Helen Robinson of Huntsville, Alabama, Sheila Murphy of New York City, and nephew, John Salling of Dallas.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, her parents, and her brother, R. M. Robinson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stevens Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hallettsville, Hospice of South Texas, and Dr. Susan Kraemer for their exceptional care and compassion. The family would also like to thank Charlotte and Tommy Sitka for the gift of their amazing friendship over so many years.

Visitation: 1pm to 3pm, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Kubena Funeral home. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials (in Lieu of Flowers): The Cannoli Fund for dogs and cats in San Antonio (422 Adams St., 78210), or the animal rescue organization of your choice.
