Obituary

Carlwin Eugene "Juno" Werner Jr, 84, of Hallettsville passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025.  He was born in Hallettsville on October 11, 1942, to Carlwin Gustav and Lucille Henneke Werner.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.  He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hallettsville and then attended Southwest Texas University.

Juno enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 13, 1966, and served as an SP5/E5 medical corpsman.  While serving, he received his Registered Nurse license on November 19, 1971, and served as Operation Room Specialist/Surgical Orderly.   He was awarded the National Defense Medal and was honorably discharged on August 5, 1974.

Following discharge, Juno went to work at Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio working as a surgical anesthetist from March 1968 through February 1985.  He then accepted a job with Karl Stortz, selling medical instruments, from February 1985 through December 1993.  In 1993, he opened Juno's Mexican Café in Hallettsville until its closing in 2000.

Juno was a scratch golfer with many accomplishments.  The most notable was winning the San Antonio City Amateur Golf Tournament that qualified him to play in the US PGA "Texas Open" Golf Tournament and winning the prestigious Harvey Penick Open in Austin, TX.

After his competitive golfing era, Juno enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and playing straight dominoes with friends.

Juno was preceded in death by his parents.

Juno is survived by:  his daughters, Stacey (Bryan) Christ and Cortney (Robert) Hodge both of Houston; two granddaughters, Claire and Harper Hodge; his sisters, Barbara (John) Hemmi of San Antonio and Beverly (Guthrie) Blahuta of Hallettsville; his brother Monte (Arleen) Werner of Hallettsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Funeral Mass Service: 11:30 am Friday, September 5, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville; Visitation at 10 am with Rosary at 11 am. Memorials (in lieu of flowers): Wounded Warriors Project, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic School Athletic Dept. or donor's choice.
