Calvin Schaefer

Calvin Schaefer, 91, of Hallettsville, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, and the earthly world lost a wonderful soul while Heaven opened the gates to welcome a bright spirit. He was born on May 20th, 1935, in Lavaca County to Frank & Annie Schaefer. He was the youngest of 14 - 9 brothers and 4 sisters.

Calvin worked in the Seismograph Business as a shothole driller for Lunsford & Buford Drilling Company for over 60 years until his retirement. In his free time, he kept busy with his cattle and working on old tractors. He always enjoyed being outdoors.

Calvin & Eleanora enjoyed taking trips to Louisiana to play the slot machines, he wasn’t one to brag, but more often than not was lucky. He also loved watching the Houston Astros, Dallas Cowboys, wrestling and a few other sports.

Calvin leaves behind many loved ones with memories and stories to tell. While there were laughter, love and tears, he lived a long life filled with hope, strength, and devotion. He will be greatly missed. His spirit will remain with those lives he has touched whether family or friends.

Calvin is survived by: daughter Debbie Smith (friend John Leonard); 2 sons, Roy Schaefer(Jean) and Douglas Schaefer (Sharon); daughter-in-law Melinda Schaefer Grahmann; brother-in-law Paul Fikac (Carol); 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Deloach and Annie Wagner; 7 grandchildren, Clinton Janssen, Tracey Janssen, Megan Ripley (Jacob), Jacob Schaefer (Rae), Jonathan Schaefer (Michelle), Cory Schaefer (Friend Christy) and Aaron Schaefer (Sidney); 14 great grandchildren, Bentley Janssen, Taylor Schaefer, Addison Schaefer, Brooklyn Schaefer, Aubrianah Schaefer, Timberley Schaefer, Liesel Ripley, Rory Ripley, Owen Schaefer, Ashtyn Schaefer, Grayson Schaefer, Timothy Blake Schaefer; and one on the way. Along with his 3 dogs, Ginger, Buddy and Belle.

Calvin was preceded in death by: his wife Eleanora; son Timothy Wayne Schaefer; brothers, Lester, Elden, Hilmer, Victor, Hilton, Harry, Weldon, William and one infant; and sisters, Earline Schaefer, Eleanor Hermes, Paula Pagel and Sarah Jansky.

With deep appreciation, the family thanks you for the comforting thoughts, prayers, and endless kindness you have extended to during this time of sorrow. The family wants to thank everyone that has kept the families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you!

Funeral Mass Service: 11 am, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville with Visitation starting at 9:30 am and Rosary starting at 10:30 am. Pallbearers: Clinton Janssen, Tracey Janssen, Johnathan Schaefer, Jacob Schaefer, Aaron Schaefer, Jacob Ripley, Cory Schaefer, Tommy Kainer and Megan Ripley. Officiant: Rev. Michael Rother. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Donor’s Choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
