Obituary

Calvin Ray "Cal" Langenberg, 61, of Hallettsville, passed away suddenly January 14 at his home in the Shiloh Community of Lavaca County. He was born Dec. 6, 1951 in Hallettsville to Otto Langenberg and Amalia "Molly" Hemmerlein Langenberg.

Cal was baptized on December 25, 1951 by Rev. A. D. Klages in the Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. He was confirmed in 1966 by Rev. Flockmeier at the St. John-Shiloh Lutheran Church in Lavaca County. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schulenburg since 2007.

He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1971. Always a hard worker, he began helping on the family farm at a young age, and worked after school at Weingarten's in Hallettsville. He worked for Voskamp Motors in Hallettsville and then learned the machinist trade at Southwest Machine Works in Houston. He continued his machinist career at W-K-M Manufacturing in Houston, RigMaster in Schulenburg, and for the last 31 years at UTEX Industries in Weimar. He was also a capable shade tree mechanic who loved antique and classic cars.

He married Kathy McLeod on Oct. 18, 1981. He is survived by his wife, daughter Misty Langenberg Sanders and son-in-law Eric Sanders, grandsons Eric Wayne Sanders Jr. and Ethan Ray Sanders, and son Brandon Langenberg. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Mary and Leroy Schroeder, and brother and sister-in-law Harvey and Dodie Langenberg, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cal was a devoted husband who never missed honoring his wedding anniversary and his wife's birthday with cards, gifts, and flowers. He was a loving father who was so proud of his daughter and her family, and of his son who shares Cal's aptitude for math. He loved to joke and laugh, and never met a baby he didn't want to hold. He will be deeply missed.
