Bonnie Colleen Appelt

Bonnie Colleen Appelt, 92, formerly of Hallettsville, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 21, 2026. Born on July 20, 1934, in Maud, Oklahoma, she was the beloved daughter of Oscar and Mary Collum. She married Howard Appelt on April 14, 1967, in Port Lavaca, Texas.

A woman of selflessness and love, Bonnie always put others before herself. She loved spending time with her family and especially looked forward to family reunions. She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, reading, crafts, and playing Chicken Foot dominoes. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, putting out trotlines, and working cattle.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Bonnie read her Bible daily, attended church, and gave her time to others. She dedicated her time to volunteering at Christ Kitchen in Victoria, where she served people experiencing homelessness, and was active in the Women of the ELCA at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hallettsville. She shared her passion for sewing and quilting for the country store and for people in need.

Bonnie is survived by: her sons, Randy L. Greenroad (Melinda) and Felix “Scooter” Appelt (Amy); her sister Ruth Emerson; her grandchildren, Leon, Leanne, Lindy, Alisha, Brian, Randall, Kaitlyn and Jade; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by: her husband Howard Appelt; her daughters, Cinda Manning Rodgers and Betty Drexler; her infant son Alex Appelt; and her siblings, Inez Collum, Lucille Miller, Harold Collum, Virginia Gesch, Mary Christian, Alma Pradon and Phenone Hunt.

Bonnie will be remembered for the love she gave her family, the joy she found in being together, and the many ways she put her faith into action.

Funeral Service: 10am, Monday, September 28, 2026, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm to 8 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiant: Pastor Herb Beyer. Memorials: Donor’s Choice. Burial: Hallettsville City Cemetery.
