IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bohumir Benedict
Pustejovsky
November 8, 1927 – July 11, 2020
Bohumir Benedict Pustejovsky, age 92, of Hallettsville, went to be with the Good Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2020. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was born at home on November 8, 1927 to Julius & Annie (Konvicka) Pustejovsky. He was one of eight children. He attended Pagel Settlement School for a short time and then stayed home to help his parents on the farm. He met the love of his life and his "Jewel", Mary Ann Bolech, at a dance at Wied Hall. They were married on April 21, 1954 and settled on their farm, where they raised six children. He was an honest, hardworking farmer, raising tomatoes, corn, cotton, peanuts, sweet potatoes and turkeys. When farming could no longer fully support the family, he went to work for Weingarten's in Hallettsville. After its closing, he and Mary Ann worked together at Tex Tan Leather Company in Hallettsville, and later he also worked in the oilfield for T&L Lease Service, then as a bricklayer's helper for Mark Klekar, and lastly for Better Beverages Inc. He retired in 1989 and no one was happier than him when Mary Ann retired in 2001 and they could spend their time together taking care of the cattle down at Low Country, haymaking and attending livestock auctions. In 2016, as his health started deteriorating, he required more care, the difficult decision was made and he became a resident of Stevens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hallettsville, where he remained until he became ill and passed away at Lavaca Medical Center.
Bohumir loved his Czech music, and was an accomplished accordion player, which he learned to play by ear as a young boy. He could hear a tune once and the next thing you know he was playing it. Many family holidays and birthdays were spent listening to him play and sing with all of us joining in. In the early days, he and Mary Ann loved to go dancing with their friends or to wedding dances, often taking the children with them. In his younger days he liked going squirrel and coon hunting with his dogs but was most fond of deer hunting. He couldn't wait to get that "big buck" on opening day and show it off. He loved hearing reports from other family members and seeing the pictures. He also enjoyed going to the various area picnics and especially loved all the good food served at them. His favorites were chicken noodle soup, fried chicken, dressing, stew and any and all sweets!
Bohumir leaves behind to mourn and miss him with heavy hearts; his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; his children, Gail (Jerry) Tesch, Pam (Michael) Etzler, Arleen (Monte) Werner, Gary (Carol) Pustejovsky, Mary (Allan) Leopold, & Brenda (Billy) Mitchon, all of Hallettsville. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren on the way.
Bohumir was preceded in death by: an infant son, his parents, his siblings, twin sister Hedwig Pustejovsky, Theresa Steffek, Fred Pustejovsky Sr, and Ludwig Pustejovsky. He was also preceded in death by three infant siblings, twins Julius & Justina Pustejovsky and Vlasta Pustejovsky.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Stevens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their loving care and assistance over the past years and to Lavaca Medical Center staff for their compassionate care in his final days.
We love you. Na Zdravi - until we see you again!
