Obituary

Bobbie Jean (Holle) Hobbs, 86, of Hallettsville, TX passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17th, 2024, at the Stone Creek Memory Care Facility in Houston, TX.  She was born at her home in Washington, TX on May 20, 1938, to her parents Charlie & Nelda (Krueger) Holle.  She was baptized on June 2, 1938, and confirmed on August 3, 1940, at Frieden's Church in Washington, TX.  She attended Brown's Prairie School in Washington, TX and graduated from Brenham High School Class of 1957.

Bobbie initially attended Blinn Jr. College in Brenham.  Through her brother's introduction, Bobbie met Billy Joe Hobbs of Hallettsville while in high school and the two of them began dating while Billy was attending Texas A&M.  They chose to elope on November 6, 1957, and were married at Frieden's Church. Bobbie & Billy would spend the next 65 years together enjoying all that life had to offer.

Due to Billy's Army commitment and eventual employment with Conoco, they moved to various towns through the years.  While living in Odessa, Tx.  Bobbie decided to go back to college.  She first attended Odessa Junior College and later became a member of the first graduating class at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, TX.  She graduated Suma Cum Laude with a B.A. in Education in 1975.

Bobbie and her family moved back to Hallettsville in 1976 where she initially taught Special Education before deciding to teach second grade with the Hallettsville Independent School District.  She retired after 10 years to begin traveling with Billy.

Bobbie & Billy went on numerous hunting and fishing trips to Alaska, Africa, and Colorado, and traveled for fun to Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.  There was never a project too big for them.  She supported Billy in building a log cabin, raising cattle, learning how to fly and build a helicopter, and many other projects too numerous to mention.

Bobbie was known for her quick wit and her great sense of humor.  She was a fabulous cook and loved to bake.  Holidays were special to her, and she loved making everyone's favorite dessert.  She was an avid gardener, and an excellent seamstress, and a talented artist.  She also loved animals and always had numerous pets throughout the years. She did not like to sit still and had limitless energy.

Bobbie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hallettsville where she worshipped and played piano for the church choir on a regular basis.  She was also an active member of the Retired Teachers Association in Hallettsville.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband Billy of 65 years, infant son Bruce, parents Charlie & Nelda Holle, brother Dennis Holle, sister-in-law Nancy Holle, sister Francis Anderson, and daughter-in-law Lillian Gohlke Hobbs.
