Obituary

Blase A. Konvicka Sr., 82, of Worthing, was called to his heavenly home Thursday, January 1, 2009. He was born on April 21, 1926 to Frank and Agnes Kutach Konvicka.

Blase served his country during World War II; he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and 1 Overseas Service Bar. After his honorable discharge on June 1946, he helped his father, Frank, farm until he decided to build a general store and service station in 1948. In 1952, an open air dance platform was added. He married Margaret Vaculik, of Praha, on September 24, 1955. The coulple had five children, Blase Jr., James, Michael, Beverly and Mary Ann. While raising their family, they continued to operate Blase's Place, selling general merchandise, gas, feed, fresh meat and fish. The business also included a Barber Shop, Domino Hall and pool table. Blase also enjoyed raising cattle, farming, and fishing in his early years. Blase's Place has always been a popular gathering place for residents from the surrounding areas. He enjoyed socializing with his customers and always told them, "thank you and y'all come back." He was a member of the St. Isidore Society, V.F.W. of Shiner, American Legion of Hallettsville, K.J.T. Lodge #15, Altar Society, Holy Rosary Society, social member of K.J.Z.T, and parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Blase is survived by: wife Margaret; 3 sons, Blase Konvicka Jr. and wife Deberah of Hallettsville, James Konvicka & wife Carol of Yoakum, and Michael Konvicka & wife Sandra of Hallettsville; 10 grandchildren, Krystle Roberts & husband Ian, Jessica Konvicka, Kandis Konvicka, Blase Konvicka III, Erik Konvicka, Dillon Konvicka, Mikayla Konvicka, John Konvicka, Derek Konvicka, and Kevin Konvicka; and 2 great grandchildren, Aidan and Elodie Roberts.

Blase was preceded in death by: his 2 infant daughters, Beverly Ann and Mary Ann Konvicka; parents; 8 brothers, Leon, Victor, Alfons, Bohumir, Frank II, John, Clement, and Bernard Konvicka; and 3 sisters, Bessie Ann Mozisek, Margaret Gaston, and Agnes Mozisek.

Service: 2 pm, Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation: 1 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosaries: 5 pm, Sunday and 1:30 pm, Monday, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Pallbearers: John Konvicka, Derek Konvicka, Dillon Konvicka, Erik Konvicka, Blase Konvicka III, Randy Janak, and Franklin Mozisek. Burial: St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery. Officiate: Rev. John Peters. Memorials: St. Isidore Society, St. Mary's Catholic Church, or Vysehrad School.
