Obituary

Billy G. Henry, 79, of Hallettsville, passed away Aug. 5, 2015. He was born on April 5, 1936 to W.H. & Effie Wilson Henry in Bryan, TX. He married Lois Bennett on Sept. 16, 1961 in Cuero, TX. He was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Assn., National Rifle Assn. and Alexander United Methodist Church of Bryan.

Billy worked 35 years for the Texas Animal Health Commission as a livestock inspector, playing a vital role in the Brucellosis Eradication Campaign in Texas. He enjoyed working cattle and kept a herd through most of his life. Living in the country and enjoying the outdoors was the only life he ever had or ever wanted. Memories of days and evenings in the deer camp with good friends were among his most favorite recollections. Just last season, Billy bagged an impressive buck that was the envy of several Lavaca County hunters. He enjoyed reliving that moment all last spring.

When Billy wasn't checking on cattle or hunting, you could find him in his outdoor kitchen. The man could cook. Back in 1977, Billy was on a team of Lavaca County cooks who won the World Championship BBQ Cook-off at the Houston Livestock Show. He enjoyed good BBQ, good friends, and good times.

Recent years found Billy staying closer to home. One of his daily rituals was to gather for morning coffee at Hoffer's with friends, many of whom are here today. Also in recent years, Billy's family grew, and family gatherings always meant food, fun, and fellowship.   Lois, his loving wife of nearly 54 years, worked tirelessly beside him making sure everyone who came to their house felt welcome and was well fed.

Husband, cowman, hunter, father, patriarch…Billy will be greatly missed.

Billy is survived by: his wife Lois; son James Henry & wife Laurie of Bryan; daughter Judy Smith of Friendswood, TX; brother Bobby Henry & wife Carol of Bryan; sister Joyce Evans & husband Marvin of Bryan; 3 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
