Obituary

Betty Dolezal Stasny, 92, of Sweet Home passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007.

The ninth of ten children, Betty Stasny was born on December 1, 1914, to Anton and Julia Castka Dolezal, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. She grew up in the Old Sweet Home area.

On October 23, 1934 she married John F. Stasny at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home. They remained in this area, farming and ranching, and eventually retired to the "city" of Sweet Home. They were blessed with six children, seventeen grandchildren, and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

Being a great seamstress and having six daughters, Betty always kept her girls well-dressed. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and had a special talent in the kitchen, especially with homemade bread, kolaches, and chicken noodle soup. No one ever left her house hungry.

A devout Catholic, Betty had great faith and especially treasured the Rosary. She appreciated and enjoyed God's gifts of beautiful flowers, birds, and wild animals.

Betty was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She will truly be missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years in 1997; her parents; six brothers, Tom, Frank Julius, Anton, Joe, and Edward Dolezal; three sisters, Millie Janak, Annie Herman, and Julie Mladenka; and one son-in-law, Daniel S. Spies.

Betty is survived by six daughters, Evelyn DeBord and husband Maurice of Lolita, Marjorie Patek and husband Edward of Victoria, Joyce Motal and husband Charles of Sweet Home, Betty Haas and husband Marvin of Houston, Mary Ann Spies of Hallettsville, and Patricia Carey and husband Mathew of Richmond; seventeen grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sweet Home on Sunday, November 25 at 1 p.m., followed by graveside services at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery. The Reverend Matthew Huehlefeld will officiate .

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David and James DeBord, Donald and Douglas Motal, and Patrick and Brian Spies.
