Betty Jane Janak, 83, of Hallettsville, passed away February 6, 2020. She was born on December 12, 1936, in Seguin, Texas, to Harry and Christine (Herman) Wittenborn. She married Edward J. Janak on September 22, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.
They began their new life together in Ezzell, Texas, and shortly after their first son was born in 1956 they moved to Houston. She was a homemaker until all the children were in school, and then she took a job at Pilgrim Cleaners until returning to Hallettsville in 1981. At this time, she began a second journey in life taking jobs with Joe's Fried Chicken, Kasper Wire Works, and lastly Steven's Nursing Home where she was a cook until she retired in her late 70's. Once retiring, her remaining years were blessed with helping her husband Ed on their family farm and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at numerous family gatherings.
Betty will always be remembered for her hobbies of sewing and embroidery, spending countless hours completing word search puzzles, baking her famous no-bake fruit cake and ranger cookies for the holidays, watching basketball, and her love for fried chicken.
Betty is survived by: David Lee (deceased); daughter-in-law Deborah; son Glenn R. Janak & wife Laurie; 2 daughters, Barbara McElroy & husband Ronald and Paula Steffek & husband Leon Jr. "Buzz" all of Hallettsville; brother Lee Wittenborn & wife Bynahmae of Shiner; brother-in-law Eugene Orsak of Moulton; 9 grandchildren, David Janak, Jr. (fiancé Joy), Derick Janak (Mallory), Jennifer Thibodeaux (Chad), Jeffrey Janak (Becca), Ryan McElroy (Bri), Kristi Moreno (Rudy), Kevin Steffek, Kyle Steffek and Kurtis Steffek (girlfriend Taylor); 15 great grandchildren, 1 on the way, Brysen, Logan, Tenley, Taryn, Bryce, June, Levi, Cody, Edyn, Eylen, Kaden, Kylie, Kenzie, baby Moreno, Trenton, Trevor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by; her parents, husband Edward, son David Lee Janak, Sr., sister Shirley Orsak, and great grandson Eaven McElroy.
Funeral Mass Service: 2:30 pm, Sunday, February 9, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville. Visitation: 5 pm, Saturday, at Kubena Funeral Home; with Rosary starting at 7 pm. Pallbearers: her grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers: her granddaughters. Officiant: Msgr. John Peters. Memorials: Donor's Choice. Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
